Editorial Standards & Corrections

BURN VOC holds itself to clear standards so readers can trust what they read. These standards apply to every story we publish.

Sourcing and verification

We report facts confirmed by the Associated Press or by at least two major news organizations, along with official records, court documents and public statements. We name our sources in plain words within each story.

Unverified claims

When a government, military, campaign or other party makes a claim that has not been independently confirmed, we identify it as a claim and say who made it.

Quotes

We never invent or alter quotes. Quotes come from public statements, interviews, recordings or records reported by credible outlets.

Fairness

We seek relevant perspectives on contested issues and describe each side’s position accurately. People accused of crimes are presumed innocent, and we say so.

News vs. analysis

News stories report what happened. Pieces offering interpretation or explanation are labeled Analysis.

Images

Our story graphics are created by our newsroom from published data. We do not publish manipulated or staged images of real people.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and add a dated correction note at the end of the story. To request a correction, email news@burnvoc.com with the story link and the details.

Independence

We do not accept payment from political campaigns, parties or advocacy groups for coverage.
