Charlotte-based Duke Energy Corporation reported third-quarter GAAP and adjusted earnings of $1.99 a share on Thursday, up from $1.81 a year earlier, and narrowed its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings outlook, according to results the utility filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

  • GAAP and adjusted diluted EPS: $1.99, vs. $1.81 a year earlier
  • Operating revenue: $9.104 billion, vs. $8.542 billion
  • Net income available to common stockholders: $1.551 billion, vs. $1.407 billion
  • Electric Utilities and Infrastructure segment income: $1.817 billion, vs. $1.658 billion
  • Gas Utilities and Infrastructure: $19 million segment loss, vs. $26 million loss a year earlier
  • 2026 adjusted EPS guidance: narrowed to $6.70–$6.80

Yahoo Finance reported that the $1.99 figure beat a Zacks consensus estimate of $1.87 a share and that revenue topped an $8.9 billion estimate. Weather-normalized retail electric sales rose 2% year over year, the outlet said, citing company figures.

What lifted the quarter

Duke Energy said higher adjusted results reflected recovery of infrastructure investments in growing service territories and favorable weather, partly offset by higher depreciation, minority-interest impacts, higher interest expense and a higher effective tax rate. The Electric Utilities segment drove most of the gain; Gas Utilities improved mainly on lower operations and maintenance expense. The company said it is executing a generation build to add 16 gigawatts of capacity by 2031.

Guidance and growth target

Management narrowed 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $6.70 to $6.80 from a prior $6.55–$6.80 band and reaffirmed a long-term adjusted EPS growth rate of 5% to 7% through 2030, measured from the midpoint of its 2025 guidance of $6.30. President and Chief Executive Harry Sideris said year-to-date results reflect disciplined execution as the company invests in reliability. Duke Energy serves about 8.7 million electric customers across six states and about 1.6 million natural gas customers.
