Fenerbahce Beats Liverpool 3-2 in Champions League Comeback
Fenerbahce twice erased Liverpool leads and won 3-2 in Istanbul, with Vedat Muriqi heading the late winner in the Champions League.

Fenerbahce overturned two Liverpool leads and won 3-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday night at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul, according to BBC Sport and Liverpool FC.
How the goals fell
Trey Nyoni opened the scoring in the 25th minute with his first senior goal for Liverpool, Liverpool FC said. Mason Greenwood leveled four minutes later with a deflected free kick that wrong-footed goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Substitute Alexander Isak restored Liverpool’s lead in the 69th minute, heading in a cross from Cody Gakpo with his first touch after coming on, both clubs’ reports said. Archie Brown equalized soon afterward, and Vedat Muriqi headed the winner with about 10 minutes left. BBC Sport said all three Fenerbahce goals came from set pieces.
Kuyt’s interim night
Interim coach Dirk Kuyt, a former Liverpool forward, managed Fenerbahce for the match. He said the side had “made a miracle” and noted it was the club’s first win against an English team in 18 years, BBC Sport reported. Kuyt is due to step aside as Emre Belozoglu takes over as head coach.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola called the goals his team conceded “cheap” and “messy,” BBC Sport reported. The defeat ended a five-game winning run for Liverpool and was its first Champions League loss of the season, according to Liverpool FC and BBC Sport.
