Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has conferred the Order of Princess Olha, 1st Class, on U.S. first lady Melania Trump, according to a presidential decree dated Nov. 2 and reported by BBC News, The Guardian, Ukrainska Pravda and Kyiv Post. Reuters also reported the award.

What the decree says

Ukrainska Pravda, citing Decree No. 1079/2026 on the presidential website, said the honor recognizes Mrs. Trump’s “significant personal contribution” to humanitarian support for Ukraine, human-rights advocacy and charitable work to help Ukrainian children and other civilians affected by Russia’s war, including people deported or forcibly displaced from occupied territory. Kyiv Post reported the same decree language. Reuters said the Order of Princess Olga honors women for exceptional work in areas including charitable activity.

Link to the Oleshky pause

The award follows a localized ceasefire around Russian-occupied Oleshky in Kherson that Ukrainian and U.S. accounts tied to Mrs. Trump’s involvement. Melania Trump said nearly 800 people were evacuated during the pause, BBC News and Reuters reported. The Guardian said she announced the localized truce last month so residents facing shortages of food and medicine could leave. The White House has said she initiated contact between the sides; neither Ukraine nor Russia has publicly detailed the extent of her role, BBC News reported.

White House meeting

Mrs. Trump is scheduled to host Ukrainian and Russian representatives at the White House on Thursday and deliver remarks on the Oleshky mission at 11 a.m. Eastern time, according to BBC News and Kyiv Post. Expected guests named in those reports include Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova, along with Ukrainian lawmaker Davyd Arakhamia and Russian official Kirill Dmitriev.
