Scott Wiener Wins Pelosi Seat After Connie Chan Concedes
San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan conceded Wednesday, clearing the way for state Sen. Scott Wiener to succeed Nancy Pelosi in Congress.

San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan conceded Wednesday in California’s 11th Congressional District race, clearing the way for state Sen. Scott Wiener to succeed House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi in Congress, according to NBC Bay Area, ABC7 San Francisco and the Los Angeles Times.
Vote totals and concession
With about 57% of the expected vote counted, Wiener led Chan 55.5% to 44.5% — 97,876 votes to 78,594 — NBC Bay Area reported, citing the NBC News Decision Desk. KQED listed Wiener at 55.4% with the same vote totals, updated at 5:45 p.m. PT on Nov. 4. Both candidates are Democrats. The Associated Press had not called the race as of late Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In a statement carried by NBC Bay Area and the Los Angeles Times, Chan said that after reviewing the results and remaining ballots, “while we expect the margin to narrow significantly, we do not have a clear path to victory.” She congratulated Wiener and thanked Pelosi for her support.
Pelosi’s seat after nearly four decades
Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco in the House since 1987 and endorsed Chan, praised Chan’s campaign for bringing “courage, conviction and a deep love for San Francisco,” ABC7 and the Los Angeles Times reported. Pelosi also congratulated Wiener and said her office “stands ready to assist in the transition.”
Wiener thanked Chan for a “spirited and hard-fought campaign” and said the outcome was historic, telling supporters that San Francisco will be represented in Congress by an LGBTQ person for the first time, according to NBC Bay Area and ABC7. He is 56, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Developing: Remaining ballots are still being counted, and the Associated Press had not projected a winner as of late Wednesday.
